Think I do my design boards just for clients? Nope – even when making decisions in our own apartment it can be really helpful to see everything laid out. Above is my design concept for our living room – minus the bar area, coffee table, and TV area, which are all staying the same.
One reason I feel that I work so well with budget clients is because I’m in the same boat myself (no one ...

Even though I’m now lucky enough to work as a professional decorator, I still struggle with decorating my own place. It’s probably the hardest project ever, and I’m constantly working on it. I think it has something to do with being surrounded by images of beautiful interiors and browsing amazing products every. single. day. There is always something beautiful catching my eye and making me second guess my loose design plans, especially when we’re trying ...

Can you tell I’m decorating our new place bit by bit? I have a few specific projects to complete before our holiday party this year but for the most part I’m just keeping an eye out for pieces that might work together and what we can afford. Gotta jump on deals when we can! And one item I’ve been searching for is a runner solution down our hallway.
The hallway runs almost exactly 14 feet long ...

Ryan and I desperately need a new bed. The old full-size mattress we have is on its last limbs (considering its from Ryan’s childhood home, it’s not a surprise). Plus, I’m a sprawler and yet somehow end up with a quarter of the mattress because Thisbe sleeps at my feet. So, we’re putting “contribute to our bed fund” on our Christmas lists. Considering we’ll need a mattress, box spring, frame, headboard, plus things like a ...

If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of Lamps Plus. I ordered lampshades for our bedroom lamps from them last year and frequently recommend their products to clients. When we moved into our new apartment a few months ago, I knew I wanted to put in some sort of wall lights – we don’t have much space for furniture that will hold another table lamp, but ...

I’m reserving the right to change my mind, but I have been working on some tentative ideas for our bedroom. I never really got to decorate our bedroom how I wanted in our last apartment – it always seemed to be last on the list. And it’s last here too, but it may get some attention sooner rather than later (aka we’re putting some items on our Christmas lists).
Here’s the room in August (it’s cleaner ...

I learned a TON after filming my first “vlog” (video blog), a tour of our apartment right after getting the keys. Like, which way to hold the camera, ha! Now that we’ve been here for a little over two months (crazy!), I thought an updated tour was in order. You’ve seen some still photos on the Maggie Rose facebook page, but it’s easier to get a sense of space in video. AKA how small it ...

Shortly before we moved, I scored these chairs on Craigslist. Since it’s close to two months (already!) ago, I can’t remember exactly, but I think I paid $110 or $120 for them.
They look pretty clean in this picture but they were in bad shape. The fabric (quilted butter yellow) had large noticeable staining everywhere and had faded unevenly. The faux bamboo frame was painted a creamy yellow with gold flecks (meant to simulate bamboo? It ...

Slowly but surely things are coming together in our new place. I’m hoping to have a few things wrapped up this weekend (and tidied up) to take updated pictures and/or a new video tour. You know, now that I know which way to hold the camera (aka Ryan’s iPhone).
Anyway, this print was one of my first decor purchases for the new apartment. We hadn’t even moved in yet. We both love that it’s kind of ...

I mentioned on twitter when we first moved in that we were surprised to realize that there were no drawers in our new kitchen. Not a single one. Perhaps I was too in love with the glass-front cabinets to look below the counter?
A few trips to Storables and Ikea and we’re back in the storage business. Here’s how we’re wrangling all that “small stuff” like silverware and measuring cups…
The silverware is stored in a silverware ...
