My hostess secret? I get my appetizers from Costco. Mini quiche, mini egg rolls, tomato and feta tartlettes, and the spanakopita are all good but not always in stock. If you go the frozen route, be sure to enlist an extra pair of hands to be pulling stuff out of the oven while you can greet guests. But if you go the make-it-yourself route, here are some suggestions for pretty easy and really tasty (sounding) ...

Ryan made a ridiculously good dinner on Saturday and I asked him to share the recipe with you guys. It was a roast pork tenderloin with cinnamon apples and a cider reduction sauce. Add some buttery mashed potatoes and a dinner roll, and I’m swooning. Sorry ladies, he’s taken.
The recipe, however, is here for your enjoyment. Ryan said it was surprisingly easy. And as a spectator/devour-er, I can tell you it is a delicious tender ...

Ryan and I had a chance to try out new restaurant Delancey on Saturday. Delancey is a pizza place owned by food blogger Molly of Orangette and her hubby Brandon. They’ve only been open since August, but my-oh-my.
The goods were quite tasty and melty:
YUM
The decor (equally yummy mix of mid-century modern, academia, and industrial. I wanted to move in)
Double yum
And then we had dessert. Ryan’s reaction to the Plum Crumble with creme fraiche? “OH MY ...

So I know I don’t talk a ton about weight loss on here, but it’s something I spend a lot of my non-blogging time thinking about. As in, feeling guilty that I’m not doing anything to get in shape.
You may remember that last fall I was doing Weight Watchers and lost almost 20 pounds. I’d totally recommend it to someone who needs to get on the weight-loss bandwagon. Trouble was, after about 5 months I’d ...

What a lovely idea for a spring or summer wedding – portioned out strawberry shortcake. This would be fabulous at a picnic style wedding in a park or backyard.
And you don’t have to use this idea fo rjust weddings. A birthday party or graduation party would be just as appropriate. Although for a wedding I do think it would be cute to stencil a heart or your new initial in powdered sugar…

I tried this recipe for stuffed bell pepper last week and it was really good, cheap, and healthy. I made some slight changes to the original recipe, but below is exactly what I used. Makes enough for 2.
Ingredients
2 red or yellow bell peppers
couscous
basil (fresh or dried)
olive oil
pre-cooked shrimp (about 10 shrimp)
feta cheesepine nuts (optional)
Instructions
Cut the tops off the peppers and scoop out and clean the insides (I scraped the inside white gunk with a spoon). ...

Some of you may remember that I had a (short-lived) weight-loss blog that I left to talk about what’s really important: decor, fashion and entertaining!
I recently had a request to repost one of the recipes I got at a Weight Watchers meeting: Pumpkin Cupcakes (1 point each). Here is the original text (from October 2008):
Oh yes, my five readers, Maggie has done you good. I looked and I found Heaven this weekend, and it comes ...

Here’s a picture I snapped on Saturday. Boyfriend and I had a lazy day running errands and then vegging out. I’d planned on making a fancy roast chicken with oyster dressing for dinner but when push came to shove, we stopped by Metropolitan Market and bought these pinwheel beef with goat cheese things and some asparagus and wine. And yes, those are the roses he brought me. It was a lovely evening.

In line with my “save money” resolution, I’ve been trying to cook more (another resolution) and eat in. This also is in line with my “reach goal weight” resolution, so luckily all three of those can go hand in hand to make this fabulous meal:
A while ago I stocked up on frozen stir-fry veggies. The bag has peas, green beans, broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts (my fav), and on sale was pretty cheap. I can buy ...
