Artist of the Month is a regular feature posted on the first Thursday of the month. Museum visits are free in Seattle today, and some museums have extended hours! Go see some art!
I couldn’t ignore the powerful online presence of artist Sally King Benedict. She is a favorite among bloggers and you can’t do an art round-up without one of her paintings or works on paper. As I lean toward abstract paintings anyway, I am ...

I love art, and I want to share more amazing artists with you as I come across them. I’ll be posting my pick for Artist of the Month on the first Thursday of each month… it’s a little reminder for my Seattle readers that many of the art and history museums have free admission on the first Thursday! Nothing like seeing great art face to face.
First up for Artist of the Month is painter Aaron ...

I’m drooling over these unique terrariums found on Score and Solder. What an amazing display for a console table or even on your dining table! I can imagine them even as wedding centerpieces. The prices are a little high if you think you’ll tire of them soon, but if you love them, it’s an investment, right? wink, wink
In a similar vein (but without the gem-inspired faceting) you can get the soldered glass look for less ...

Was on The Makers the other day and loved these photos of Clair Cattilaz’s studio. I took two semesters of ceramics in high school and I really miss it. These pictures really bring out what I love about it – the messiness, the slipperiness of the clay, and the juxtaposition of wet slimy clay to the dry and dusty clay that hardens and cracks. Ceramic art is really all about texture.
And for a little blast ...

I first saw artist Yolanda Sanchez on You Are My Fave and have been dreaming of one day owning one of her paintings ever since. While Ryan and I are a few years from being art collectors on that scale, it is something we talk about and I hope that when we’re able, we will have a budget for art purchases like these! I thought you’d like to see some of my favorite pieces.
Of course ...

I may have dismantled my gallery wall, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still have a soft spot for them. Check out this beautiful example over on Brooklyn Limestone:
I love the symmetry, the fact that the pictures make the tv less of a sore thumb, and that the arrangement adds a ton of depth and texture to the wall.
Mrs. Limestone custom-ordered the frames from PictureFrames.com (I’ve ordered custom matting from them before and can also ...

I have saved the etsy shop Dimdi as a “favorite” for AGES. I was so excited to finally order some of Irene’s work for our living room. Her watercolor paintings of animals are so beautiful and charming. We had her do three custom paintings – an alpaca, a bear, and a rhino.
Someone had to remind me that she was the original beastie in the room.
For an 8×10 painting (not prints!), the $25 price tag is ...

So waaaaay back I said that I’d been planning to re-do my gallery wall arrangement in the dining room. It was looking like this:
I didn’t like the weird variety of sizes, or how far apart everything was spaced.
So we recently ended up with this:
And yes, there is a little space by that horse that I meant to fill.
But friends, I just wasn’t feeling it. I liked the arrangement SO much more than the old, but ...

We’ve been moving art around quite a bit lately! So last week when we moved the little photo from above the entry table to make room for the marbled paper, we stole that frame from the stair landing. So, from this (sorry you can’t really see the art, it’s a print that Ryan had when we moved in together):
To this:
…which left a big empty wall at the landing.
Luckily, I won a giveaway over at Brooklyn ...

I saw one of Kari Herer’s photographs on Design*Sponge yesterday while thumbing through the archives and holy. smokes. I love her work! Particularly love the roses (fitting for my namesake, don’t you think?) but the peonies will do as well…
I can’t wait to choose and purchase a print for myself – the 8×10′s are a reasonable $30-$35 while the larger sizes run in the hundreds. Maybe a little Valentine to myself? Would last much longer ...
