Does she bite the rug at all? If so, you could put a few drops of an essential oil (like lavender) in a spray bottle and spray the underside of the rug, it should help make that corner less appealing to her.

Thanks Katie!

We actually have one of the cardboard scratching things that has catnip and she LOVES it and uses it. She even hangs out on it sometimes. She doesn't really scratch the rug (once in a while but that's it), she's more using the rug as a TOY. She has other toys that she likes playing with too. Some of her larger toys she treats the same way, down on the ground wrestling, kicking at it with her back legs. But she IS hanging onto it with her claws which is why I'm worried about the snagging. Thanks for the tips, maybe we'll try to distract her from the rug with her other toys and scratching post.

We broke down and got our cat a scratching post, which although not particularly attractive, has helped with her scratching other things, like that one corner of the couch. We keep the scratching post covered in catnip so she will like it better than the couch. So maybe if Thisbe had something else that was more appealing/catnip-y to amuse herself with she wouldn't prefer the rug? Good luck!
