Some exciting news here from Casa Magchunk… it’s soon to be Casa Magchunk-and-Ryan. That’s right folks, sometime this October we’ll be moving in together. Which means a fun new space to decorate, new neighborhoods to explore, and of course a fun housewarming party to plan!
We’re still looking for a place (and plan to move that first week of October), I’m still planning Melissa’s bridal shower that will be at my apartment! Between the shower, bachelorette party, and finding a new home, things have already started getting pretty crazy. So to beat the rush, I’ve already started packing to get a head start. The week after the shower will be non-stop packing and cleaning!
As a guideline, I’ve been finding Martha Stewart’s Organizing Checklists to be extremely helpful. She has a full moving timeline (geared more toward full house moves than apartments, but still helpful), tips for packing books, lamps, kitchen stuff, and even checklists for stocking your new pantry, garden shed, and yes… craft room.
Any moving tips from the peanut gallery? Share some of your best (or worst!) moving experiences. Let us learn from you!

Such exciting times! I just bookmarked those checklists. They are pretty great… Love her housekeeping ones too.
So fun! Can’t wait to see the new place (once you pick it!).
Wow! Fun! My advice: I don’t know if you’re getting a moving truck or not, but if so, make sure that YOU take care of transporting anything fragile/anything you wouldn’t want movers to see (AKA bedroom paraphenalia, sexy lingerie, that sorta stuff). I nearly freaked when I found my lingerie had been wrapped up in a box by some creepy mover dude. Also, take the opportunity to declutter as much as possible, because combining two people’s stuff can sometimes be a lot more hectic than it seems initially.
yay! congrats to you and ryan. my worst moving experience was actually this year. b and i were moving into a new space and we live in the south which rarely experiences harsh winters. well, the weekend of our move, we had a freak snow storm that was outrageous. i saw my life flash before my eyes numerous times, slipping and sliding on ice. it was horrible.
Good luck with your move and everything, Maggie! Very exciting! I’m a big fan of Martha’s checklists (well, any checklist, really). I haven’t seen the craft stocking list though! That is exciting and slightly dangerous for me to have all of those ideas!! Have a great day!
Gidget, Yikes, I didn’t think of that, but LOL. We’re packing ourselves, but I’ll be sure to tape the unmentionables boxes tightly!
Christina, That sounds awful! I made Ryan drive my uhaul last time I moved (two years ago) because I didn’t like being up so high. Hopefully it won’t be too rainy that weekend, cause I don’t like the idea of slippery roads either :/
That’s so exciting!! My husband & I just moved into our 1st house last weekend – during a tropical storm, which was NO FUN! So I will definitely send along positive thoughts for good weather! I know you’ll be totally organized, so I’m sure it will go smoothly
I would just echo what Gidget said about really trying to pare down your stuff – combining households can create tons of clutter if you’re not careful!
